Version 1.86.95 iOS and Android

Life Expectancy, timers and calendars, put right

Most of this version went into the screens you use every day, from the first launch to Life Expectancy, and into the small things in them that got in the way. The biggest change is in Life Expectancy, which now counts your answers the way you gave them, so the estimate behind your calendars may move a little the next time you update it.

New

  • A topic shows where its pace leads

    Time diary

The first slide of a topic's Overview has a new line under the projection. It carries your daily average for the topic to the end of your expected life and tells you how many hours that pace adds up to, or, for a wasted topic, how many hours it would give to it. The line appears once the topic has logged time and your birthday and life expectancy are set.

  • Prepare a calendar for publishing before you sign in

    Life calendar

Publish Calendar now opens its form, Settings and History without an account. You fill in what you want to share, and when you tap Publish Calendar the app takes you to sign in or create an account, then brings you back to the form as you left it. History also shows the calendars you published from this device while you are signed out.

  • A note about unread notifications

    Across the app

When a notification arrives in your account, the screen you start the app on shows a small Unread notifications note at the bottom. Open takes you to the list, and the cross puts the note away until something new comes in.

Improved

  • Question hints wait for a tap

    Questions

The hint under a question is now folded away behind Tap to reveal the hint, so you can sit with the question on your own before you read it.

  • Your start screen changes right away

    Account

After you pick a screen in Setup home screen, it opens first straight away and a short note confirms it. Before, the app asked for a restart, and Restart now did nothing on iPhone and simply closed the app on Android. The question before the change reads plainly too, for example Start the app on Calendars?

  • Life Expectancy keeps the newest result on top

    Life expectancy

Results now list the newest estimate first. Your very first result becomes the default by itself, and if you delete the default, the mark passes to the newest result left, so Statistics, Calendars and Leftover follow it there.

  • Sharing an estimate sends the number of years

    Life expectancy

Share now sends your estimate in years with a link to Wastime, and the dates are no longer part of the message. If sharing fails, the app tells you.

  • Clearer labels in Life Expectancy settings

    Life expectancy

The source for a saved result is now called Calculations, with the note Saved life expectancy result, and a saved result shows its range from the lower number to the higher one. Copying your BMI says BMI copied.

  • Newer sources behind the Life Expectancy questions

    Life expectancy

Ten of the studies listed under Sources in a question's helper now point to newer research, or to research closer to what the question asks. The answers and the numbers behind them stay the same.

  • Milestones are checked against your life

    Life calendar

A milestone that starts before your date of birth is now refused, with a note saying why. One that falls after your expected life span is still saved, and the form tells you it will show on Years but not on Life.

  • Empty stories go away

    Life calendar

If you erase every word of an age story and save it, the story is deleted and the age shows that it has no stories yet. Blank stories no longer count in Show Stories or appear in a published calendar.

  • Select All in Life milestones includes new ones

    Life calendar

In the Life milestones filter, Select All now means every milestone, including the ones you add later, and an empty selection shows none. A calendar you set up before keeps showing exactly what it showed.

  • Milestone groups take care with names

    Life calendar

A group name made only of spaces is refused, names are trimmed, and a name that is already taken gets a note. Syncing a color to the milestones uses the color you saved and asks you to save a new one first.

  • The publishing form says what is missing

    Life calendar

Title and author now show a counter, stop at 255 characters and refuse a value made only of spaces. When you leave a field that still needs something, a line under it says what, for example Enter a calendar title.

  • Calendar Details reads more clearly

    Life calendar

The screen is now called Calendar Details, copying the link says Link copied, and a copy that fails says so.

  • A filter that hides everything says so

    Time diary

When a filter in Time Entry or Timers leaves nothing to show, the list now says Nothing matches this filter and how to see the rest. Before, it looked as if you had never logged anything. In Timers, reordering waits until the filter is off.

  • Split Timer explains Apply

    Timers

Apply in Split Timer now stays tappable and tells you what to fix, whether a part still has no time or runs over 12 hours.

  • Edit timer time explains itself

    Timers

Back and the cross now ask the same question and remind you that the time stays in Results. The note under Duration appears only when seconds were rounded up, and a split part says which run it came from.

  • The keep-screen-on button on devices that can't

    Timers

On a device that can't keep its screen on, the stopwatch button now says so instead of doing nothing.

  • The goal tips say what the calculator does

    Time diary

The Time goal and Deadline tips in a topic no longer promise that the calculator fills the field in. They say it works the number out, and you type it in.

  • Starting hours stay whole

    Time diary

An entry made from Starting hours no longer shows a delete button in Log time. Starting hours are removed together, from a topic's Manage tab.

  • The wasted topics guide has one name

    Time diary

The guide is called Identify the wasted topics everywhere, in its sheet and in Helper alike. Start stays off for a name made only of spaces or longer than 128 characters, and the name you save is trimmed.

  • Screen titles match the menu

    Across the app

Topic Manager and Life Expectancy are written the same way in their headers as in the menu, and Converter as your start screen no longer shows a title the other start screens don't have.

Fixed

  • Life Expectancy counts your answers the way you gave them

    Life expectancy

The question about cigarettes a day now counts only when your Tobacco use answer is Daily, and the estimate takes the smoking adjustment from one of the two answers, never both. Prefer not to say now uses the average of the countries you chose, where before it pulled the estimate far down. Changing an answer gives the same result as answering it once. A result you saved earlier keeps its numbers until you update it, so the figure at the top of it may differ from the saved one.

  • The birthday in the questions is the one the estimate uses

    Life expectancy

The Birthday field used to show January 1, 2000 without saving it, and the estimate then counted your age as if you were born in 1970. It now stays empty until you confirm a date, and the assessment waits until a birthday is set. A date today or in the future is refused on the first try.

  • An estimate that can't reach past your age says so

    Life expectancy

When the starting estimate was at or below your current age, for example with a low custom value, answers worked backwards and Finish saved dates that had already passed. The calculator now says that a future estimate isn't available from these settings and offers a way to Life Expectancy settings. A saved result whose dates have passed keeps them out of sight.

  • The BMI helper takes only real values

    Life expectancy

Height and weight now have limits, so 1 kg at 300 cm no longer comes out as a BMI that raises your estimate. With a value out of range, the helper shows no BMI and Apply waits for a real one.

  • Every screen reads the same life expectancy

    Life expectancy

Statistics could take a different saved result than Calendars and Converter, and with Countries as the source it didn't follow a change of sex. Saving or deleting a result while Calendars was open could leave Calendars and the Life timer on old values. All of them now go by your current settings and the default result, or by the newest one when none is marked.

  • Country figures follow the current data

    Life expectancy

The country table was kept from the first time you opened Life Expectancy, so if you have used the app for a while, you may still have seen figures from before the last data update. It now always comes with the app, and estimates based on countries can shift a little. Results you saved keep their numbers.

  • A result name can't be blank

    Life expectancy

In Save result as, a name made only of spaces keeps Save off, and spaces around a name are trimmed.

  • Links to sources say when they can't open

    Life expectancy

A link under Sources in a question's helper now shows a short note when the browser can't open it.

  • Ticks closed without Apply are dropped

    Across the app

In the Countries picker, Select topics and other lists with checkboxes, ticks you leave with the cross, a swipe or back are now forgotten, and Reset clears them. Search looks only at the names you see, so typing "ma" no longer lists every country.

  • Forms ask before dropping what you typed

    Across the app

Leaving a new time entry, a topic's Manage tab, a milestone or the Life Expectancy questions with changes now asks You have unsaved changes. Discard? Before, those changes were dropped without a word. A swipe from the left edge no longer opens the side menu over these screens, so it can't slip past the question either, and on iPhone the swipe back is off on them too. A form you haven't touched still closes at once.

  • Date ranges keep their first day

    Time diary

Custom range and Last 7 days in Time Entry, and the same periods in Converter History, could hide the entries of the first day in the range. They now show them.

  • Days logged add up west of Greenwich

    Time diary

West of Greenwich, the header in Time Entry counted one day too many, which halved your average. It now counts the days you actually logged.

  • Filters in Time Entry and Topic Manager

    Time diary

Right after launch, the topic list in the filter is no longer empty, and a saved topic filter shows its ticks. The filter icon is filled only when the list is really narrowed, and the reset next to Date range goes back to All time. The same goes for the History of a topic.

  • Hours in Log Details read as hours

    Time diary

Log Details now shows hours as hours and minutes, the way the note after saving does, instead of a decimal number.

  • A topic with a passed deadline can be saved

    Time diary

Editing a topic whose deadline had passed used to stop at Deadline must be in the future. A saved deadline is now accepted, and only a newly picked date has to be ahead.

  • Topic Overview updates and reads right

    Time diary

After Save in Manage, the open goal or deadline slide updates without leaving the topic. The deadline slide now says how much of the time to your deadline has passed, a start date still ahead shows when it starts, and days are counted by your own day. A few phrases read better too, such as lower than your daily goal, 1 day and 52%.

  • Topic dates are checked by your own day

    Time diary

In Manage and Starting hours, a start date after the deadline is now caught, turning the deadline on no longer leaves the start date empty, and today and tomorrow are judged by your local day rather than by Greenwich.

  • Topic History and Convert behave

    Time diary

A wasted topic remembers how you sorted its History, and sorting and Clear history come on as soon as a new topic gets its first entry. A converted topic goes to the end of its new list, both Time Entry tabs refresh after Convert, and Clear history also resets the Starting hours layout. Deleting a topic while its goal slide is open no longer brings up an error.

  • Information tips fit on the screen

    Time diary

The ⓘ tips in Log time, Manage and Starting hours now open in the middle of the screen, so a long one fits.

  • A run under an hour no longer reads 00:60

    Timers

A stopwatch run of 59 minutes and some seconds now becomes 01:00, and entries saved as 00:60 earlier count as the full hour in Time Entry.

  • Timers start again after a pause

    Timers

Once you pause or finish a timer in the stopwatch window, the play button in the Timers list starts it again. Before, the next tap did nothing.

  • Continuing from Results picks up where it stopped

    Timers

Continuing an entry from Results now resumes from its saved time, without the time it spent waiting there. If that topic's timer is already running, the app asks before it moves the running session to Results.

  • Timer entries are dated by the day you started

    Timers

An entry saved from Results, a split part, and Complete in the stopwatch are now dated by the day the session started, including when you opened the stopwatch from Log time. You can still change the date.

  • The question after 12 hours does what it says

    Timers

Answering No to the question about a long run now tells you the timer waits in Results to be split or saved, and the stopwatch starts again from zero, so Complete can't save the same time twice. Tapping outside the question changes nothing.

  • Timers don't double up or run below zero

    Timers

A second split in the same topic now saves, and a quick double tap on Save in Edit timer time no longer creates two entries. Opening the stopwatch from Log time reached through a topic's + no longer starts a second timer for that topic. If the device clock goes back while a timer runs, the stopwatch shows zero instead of a negative time.

  • Date and time errors show when you confirm

    Across the app

A message such as Min time cannot be greater than max time now shows right after Confirm and goes away after a reset. Before, it waited for the next step and stayed over fields you had already cleared.

  • Setup features and Reorder sidebar features

    Account

You can no longer switch off the last feature that is still on, so Home can't end up empty. In Reorder sidebar features, apply lights up only when the order has really changed.

  • Ages, Stories and Life agree

    Life calendar

With a life expectancy that has part of a year, Ages and Stories end the grid in the right year. Life and Ages give the same number of days lived, the years in the Stories header match Ages before your birthday, the footprints badge matches its list, and on your birthday Ages and Years show today's cell.

  • Milestone lists show what you saved

    Life calendar

Age milestones no longer list a milestone you never saved, and a deleted one doesn't come back. Milestones within a year follow your sort order, newest years come first in Life milestones, and an empty list says No life milestones. Groups in the milestone form follow the order you set in Reorder.

  • Calendar filters and search

    Life calendar

Reset in the Ages and Life filters now clears Groups too. The search on Calendars clears when you switch tabs, looks only at milestone names and says when nothing matches. Choosing Custom life expectancy with no value no longer saves the previous number.

  • Life timer, zoom and colors

    Life calendar

Leaving the Life timer with back or a swipe no longer hides the status bar on the next screen. Zoom in Life stops at 30%, since below that the grid used to vanish, and the pulsing current day in Ages uses your Current day color. Calendars waiting in the background redraw after you apply a setting globally from another one.

  • Publishing a calendar copes with errors

    Life calendar

The button that fills the form from your last publication turns on and off right after a publish or a delete, and no longer empties the form when there is nothing to fill it from. After Overwrite, the progress stays on screen until the overwrite is done. When sharing a calendar or refreshing History fails, you see a short note instead of nothing.

  • The first launch screens

    Across the app

On Help us fix what breaks, the text now scrolls below the status bar instead of sliding under the clock.

  • The back button on Android

    Across the app Android only

Back while the terms sheet is open on first launch no longer sends the screens underneath back a step. On the wasted topics guide, back asks Are you sure? the way the arrow does. In Log time opened from a topic, and in Edit timer time, back closes an open picker or sheet first.

  • A reinstall on iPhone starts signed out

    Account iOS only

iPhone keeps sign-in data after an app is deleted, so a reinstall came back signed in to the old account with none of its data on the phone. The first launch after installing now signs that account out.

Removed

  • Pull to refresh in Topic Manager and Life Expectancy

    Across the app

Pulling down on these two screens only spun for a moment and refreshed nothing, so the gesture is gone.
