Life calendar

The life calendar lays out your life as weeks, one small cell for each, so the years you have lived and the years still ahead fit into a single picture. It is a quiet way to see how much time there is, and how much of it has already gone somewhere.

Milestones are what turn that grid into your own. These guides walk through setting the calendar up and marking the moments that mattered on it.

Guides

  1. Set up your life calendar

Give Wastime your birthday and the age you expect to reach, and the life calendar draws every week of your life, the ones lived and the ones ahead.

  2. Add a milestone to your life calendar

Mark a moment that mattered on your life calendar in Wastime. Give it a name and a date, and its week on the calendar takes on its color.

  3. Group and color milestones

Gather related milestones into a group with its own color in Wastime, bring their colors in line, and show one group at a time on your life calendar.

  4. Edit, find and delete milestones

Find a milestone on your Wastime life calendar, change its name or date, stretch it over several days, and delete the ones you no longer need.

  5. Explore a year in days

Open one year of your life day by day in Wastime, see where today falls and where your milestones sit, and jump to any age you want to look at.

  6. Write an age story

Write down what a year of your life was about in Wastime, mention the milestones that belong to it, and read it again next to your calendar.

  7. Read your life in weeks

Zoom into the Wastime life calendar, see what each week and color stands for, open a busy week to find every milestone in it, and pick the ones the grid shows.

  8. Change calendar colors and filters

Choose which part of your life the Wastime calendar shows, recolor its weeks, decide what it marks, and carry the same look over to Ages and Years.

  9. Count from your country's average

Let the Wastime calendars count from the average life expectancy of the countries you choose instead of your own number, and switch back whenever you like.

  10. See your life in years

Look at your whole life in Wastime as one square per year, see how much of it is behind you, let your milestones pass by, and open any year day by day.

  11. Watch the life timer

Open the Wastime life timer and watch the time you have left count down, in weeks and days, in tenths of a second, or as the share of your life already lived.

  12. Import milestones with an AI assistant

Turn a list of moments you already have into milestones on your Wastime life calendar, with an AI assistant making the file for the app to bring in.

Questions and answers

Why is my life calendar empty?

The calendars are built from your birthday and your life expectancy, and until both are set there is nothing to draw. On the Calendars tab, the line at the top should read something like "85 years / Mar 21, 1994". If you see a message there instead, tap Setup Life Expectancy and fill in what is missing.

Two milestones fall in the same week. Which one paints it?

When one lies entirely inside the other, like a weekend inside a long trip, the shorter one stays on top whatever its priority, so it never disappears into the longer one. Otherwise the milestone with the higher Priority gives the week its color. Tap the week to see all of them together.

Can I use the average life expectancy for my country instead of my own number?

Yes. On the Life expectancy screen, choose your countries under Select Countries, then on the Calendars tab switch Life Expectancy type to Countries. The calendars then count from the average for those countries, taken for the sex you set under Sex, or halfway between the numbers for men and women when it is not set or set to Prefer not to say. Count from your country's average walks through it.

Can a milestone belong to more than one group?

No, a milestone has one group or none. If a moment fits two themes, it is usually worth choosing the one you are more likely to look for later.

I picked a group for a milestone, but its color stayed the same. Why?

A milestone you already had keeps its own color when it joins a group. To give every milestone in a group the group's color, open the group from manage milestone groups, switch to its Milestones tab and tap the button with two arrows going round. A milestone you create later takes the color of its group as soon as you pick one.

Can I add a milestone that hasn't happened yet?

Yes. A date in the future works the same way, and the milestone waits in its week on the part of the calendar that is still ahead of you.

Why does the search say I don't have any milestones?

When nothing matches what you typed, the Milestones tab shows the same words as an empty list, "You don't have any life milestones yet". Your milestones are still there, and Cancel brings them back. The search looks at names and dates, though not at the names of groups.

Can I get a deleted milestone back?

No. The app asks before deleting, and once you answer Yes, the milestone is gone from the list and from every calendar.

Can a story mention a milestone from another year?

Only the milestones of the story's own year appear in the list after "@". A milestone that spans several years can be mentioned in the story of each of them.

I already have a list of milestones. Do I have to add them one by one?

Not necessarily. The help on the Calendars screen has a Copy Prompt for AI Assistant button, and with that prompt an assistant of your choice can turn your list into a backup file. You then bring the file in through Data Backup, with Import Data and then Merge, as Import milestones with an AI assistant shows.
