Wastime Journey

Wastime Journey is a story about time, written by the person behind the app, and it is where the tools of Wastime come from. Its chapters tell what each part of the app is for and what thinking stands behind it, and they are read a page at a time, in order or from whatever section feels closer today.

The story can be read slowly. The app keeps your place and marks what you have read, so it waits for you between one evening and the next, however long that turns out to be.

Questions and answers

How do I get back to the page where I stopped?

Open Journey and tap Continue at the bottom of the map. It opens the exact page you left, and the map itself scrolls to the card of that section.

Is my place kept after I close the app or move to a new phone?

Yes. The place is saved as you read and survives closing the app, and it is part of a backup, so after Restore your data from a backup Journey opens where you were.

How do I turn a page back?

Swipe right. On Android the back button of the phone turns pages back too, until you reach the page you came in on, and then it leaves the story.

Why hasn't my progress reached 100 %?

The bar counts whole sections, and only the ones marked as read. A section you closed before its last page stays unmarked until you finish it or tap the tick at the top, and the bonus chapters are left out of the count altogether.

What does bonus mean next to a chapter?

A chapter marked bonus stands a little aside from the rest. You can read it like any other, and its sections get their marks the same way, but it doesn't count towards the progress, so skipping it leaves the percentage as it was.

What are the numbers in round brackets?

They stand wherever a chapter leans on someone else's work. The button with a question mark at the top of the map opens About Journey, where Open sources lists what each number stands for, and the last page of the story leads to the same list.

Why does Journey stop after eight chapters?

That is as far as the writing has got. The rest is being written by one person in the evenings, without a date promised for it, and new chapters arrive with updates of the app. The last card on the map, "Journey stops here for now", says so in the author's own words and has Send feedback in case you want to say something about what you read.

How do I take away the red frame around the Journey tile?

The frame stays on the home screen until you have read the chapters, bonus ones aside. To take it away sooner, switch off Highlight Journey on home under Account and then Settings in the menu.
