Weigh an estimate against your tracked time
Estimates of wasted time tend to be kinder than the days themselves were. If you log your time in Time Entry, Wasted can set your own logged average beside the estimate and show you a figure that sits between the two.
Before you start
The switch needs wasted entries in Time Entry, and Log your time and Identify a wasted topic show how they are made. Your average stands at the top of Time Entry on the Wasted side, here "averaging 01:15 a day", and that is the number the calculator takes, from all your wasted entries whatever filter Time Entry has on. How Wasted itself works is in Add up what a habit has taken.
Steps
Turn the switch on
On the home screen, tap Calculators, then Wasted, and start a new calculation called A year of wasted time. On the first two steps, set the year from June 15, 2025 to today, with Day and 1 to 2 hours a day, the way Add up what a habit has taken walks through them. This estimate covers all your wasted time together, which is the kind of count the switch is made for. On the third step, scroll down past the factors and tick Include my tracked time state.

Read what it does
The button with an i next to the switch opens a window that explains it. Under Meaning, Why it’s needed and How it works it says that the switch takes the daily average of everything you have tracked as wasted, stretches it across the dates you chose and balances it against your estimate. Further down, When to use it adds that this average belongs in a count of your life as a whole, and that for a single habit the switch is usually worth leaving off. Swipe the window down to close it.

Compare the result
On the last step the total now reads 594.75 hours at most, 411.75 at least and 503.25 on average, while the same estimate without the switch gave 732, 366 and 549. Each figure sits halfway between your estimate and what 01:15 a day comes to over the 366 days, about 457.5 hours, which is why the maximum drops and the minimum rises. Save keeps the calculation the same way as in Add up what a habit has taken.

What's next
The figure is only as honest as the diary behind it, and Log your time shows how to keep it going. Identify a wasted topic helps decide which activities belong on the wasted side, so that their hours count toward this average.
